"Filmmaker in :50" - Episode 1 with Special Guest Jamal Page

Filmmaker in :50 is a HIFFCO Original Series that spotlights filmmakers and briefly puts them in the hot seat to answer revealing and occasionally absurd questions.

Featured Filmmaker: Jamal Page

Hello, Friends of HIFF!

As you may have heard, we recently started a new series called Filmmaker in :50 where we sit down with a filmmaker to get to know bit more about them by way of a barrage of face-paced questions.

Jamal Page (Black Sparrow Media), hailing from Oklahoma, but several years now a resident of Fort Collins, had the honors of being the first one in the hot seat. As February is Black History Month and a focused opportunity to recognize and celebrate black people and culture, and since our series begins in February, we wanted to kick-off Filmmaker in :50 with one very talented representative of the black community. Check out his special on instagram: @blacksparrowmedia where he has produced and posted some shorts about what it means to be black in America. The series also shares personal inspirations from the black community and aims to raise awareness surrounding sensitive topics that we could all stand to learn and talk more about.

Jamal is a bright young Director who has really found his stride since moving to Fort Collins a few years ago- for the purpose of growing his filmmaking career. He has done exactly that and it has been a pleasure watching him grow as a filmmaker and community leader.

Not only has he written, directed, and produced several short films, but he continues to raise his own bar and everyone else’s around him. Last summer, he curated a regular night of programming at The Lyric Cinema (where this series is filmed) that turned out to be a huge success despite the pandemic (yet another sign that Northern Colorado loves film and its filmmakers). He also plans this year to put out a new project every month, a challenge in our industry!

We’d like to congratulate Jamal for his first entry into HIFFCO being selected! We can’t wait to see what he and the Black Sparrow Media Team come up with next.
